As a former centre of textile production, Dornbirn is characterised by the villas, town houses and mills that the factory owners built. The sites of several former industrial buildings are now home to cultural centres, clubs, and museums. The latter includes the interactive natural history museum, “inatura”: a treat for all ages and the perfect plan for a rainy day.

No trip to Dornbirn is complete without a trip by cable car up to Dornbirn’s local mountain, Karren – best enjoyed over an extended lunch at the classy panoramic restaurant at the summit. Capturing the views in a photo is a must, taking in the Rhine Valley, the nearby Swiss mountains, and Lake Constance. Those with a head for heights can grab a selfie from one of several viewing platforms, including one with a glass floor jutting out over the mountainside.

After all the excitement it’s high time for a beer. The “World of Beer” museum at the Mohren brewery, a family-run business stretching back to the 19th century, takes visitors on a journey through history and the brewing process. Guided tours and tasting sessions with qualified beer sommeliers are highly recommended!
