Rheinbähnle

TRIPS ON THE RHINE ESTUARY

Rheinbähnle

This charming steam train began life as a genuine service railway, but today is used solely for visitor trips. The track runs along the Rhine embankment from the Rhein-Schauen Museum in Lustenau and through the nature reserve to the mouth of the Rhine at Lake Constance. In the other direction, the railway track runs from the starting point in Lustenau to Wiesenrain, over the bridge to Widnau and back again. The journey through the varied landscape of the nature reserve and the Rhine region can be experienced either with a steam locomotive from 1910 or 1920, or an electric locomotive from the 1940s. Special trips can be organised for groups on request. A guided tour of the Rhein-Schauen Museum is particularly recommended for groups, where visitors can learn everything about the regulation of the Rhine river and the natural habitat in the Rhine Valley.
