St. Gerold Priory

Propstei St. Gerold

It is claimed the monastery of St. Gerold dates back to the 11th century. Today, the priory, which belongs to the Benedictine monastery of Einsiedeln in Switzerland, is considered the spiritual and cultural centre of the Great Walser Valley. It’s the setting for numerous seminar and cultural events throughout the year, and even “hippotherapy” with its horses in the monastic stables. A visit to St. Gerold can offer a balancing, calming and inspiring respite as part of an otherwise busy group itinerary, surrounded by nature and silence.

There’s also the possibility here of lunch or an afternoon coffee break. On a guided tour through the historic walls, groups can learn lots of interesting facts about the monastery’s thousand-year history, rounded off with a glass of Propstei house wine or grape juice.
