Bludenz is surrounded by an amphitheatre of mountains whose peaks reach well over 2,000 metres. Affectionately known by locals as the "Städtle", it is a springboard for five Alpine valleys and a centre of alpine sport. With just under 15,000 inhabitants, Bludenz is the smallest town in Vorarlberg. The well-preserved town gates, medieval arcades and narrow streets give visitors a good idea of life here in times gone by. Groups can climb the emblematic tower of the Laurentius church by appointment, from where there are insights into the building’s construction and a wonderful bird's eye view.
